Seiland is an island located in the southwest corner of Norway.

More precisely, it’s located in Finmark county of Hammerfest.

Seiland is the eight largest island in Norway with a land area which covers some 559 kilometers square.

The island area covers at least three municipalities but it is usually associated with only one: Hammerfest. Hammerfest itself comprises of three islands of which Seiland makes up one.

Evidence shows that human habitation existed in Seiland as far back as 7 millennia ago, currently people only inhabit certain areas of the island. Seiland boasts of two major glaciers which are quite popular with visitors to the island.

 

 

Seiland Attractions

Seiland is a great place for those who like fishing.

A number of different tourist services and tours exist for people who intend to carry out fishing trips in the region.

Different kinds of fishing trips are available and they include both Deep Sea fishing as well as Ocean Salmon fishing.

Other things that can be done as well and this includes the use of Snowmobiles and birdwatching as well.

 

 

Seiland National Park

The Seiland National Park is also popular with tourists as well.

The Seiland National Park was officially opened in the year 2007 and it offers a huge amount of diversity for its location.

The Park has a lot of areas which are hard to reach but not completely inaccessible it exists at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level for the most part. Seiland National Park has a lot of variety and the scenery is equally stunning. You have a number of wonderful peaks, glaciers and a number of fjords as well.

Despite the cold , a wonderful amount of flora is available and a lot of fauna is to be seen in the region as well. Bird life here is quite unique and unlike anything you would see anywhere else in Europe or the rest of the world. Reindeer and sheep farming tend to take place withing the park and fishing takes place there as well.
